On Sunday, I flew out to Las Vegas for an author’s convention. As someone who largely works from home, and doesn’t regularly travel, or be around people for that matter, It was a big decision, but one I don’t regret.
I’ve had some wonderful, educational, often enjoyable though sometimes painful conversations with authors of genres across the board, as well as editors, publishers, and other spokespeople from a plethora of fields related to the book industry. I’ve gotten great advice about things to consider about my books, ways to market them, and even been able to offer new inspiration to other authors!
I’ll admit that it’s been a struggle to balance my own energy levels and capabilities with getting to do all the things I wanted to do, when coming, but when it comes down to it, my health comes first.
So yes, while I’ve been having an amazing time connecting with fellows in the industry to which I’m so very new, I’ve ALSO been making plenty of time for rest, sleep, and self care.
From one of my absolute favorite conversations, came the following gem:
Life is an adventure. The thing about adventures is that they’re not SUPPOSED to be easy. They’re supposed to be an inspiration for stories. so when life has gotten hard, remember that when you get through (and you will. I have faith!), You’ll have an amazing story to tell others, both to remind yourself that you’re stronger than you thought you were, and capable of amazing things!
